How I recharge my batteries

Some days, the noise of the world turns into chaos.

Those days, I can’t stand loud voices, stimuli, and duties. It becomes too much.

Those days, I like to take some time to be alone with myself. That’s how I recharge my batteries.

I bet we all know the best practices to regenerate: meditation, exercise, detox from our phones, and so on.

But what about the activities we actually do?

What are those little actions that differ for each of us and make us unique in our way of pausing from the hectic rat race?

Here is what I do to cleanse my mind.

Contemplating

I love to go out on sunny days.

Usually, I take the train or drive my car to the closest green spot.

I walk at a slow pace and relax my breath.

I smile at strangers.

The birds are so soothing when they sing.

I greet people on the way.

Then, I find a quiet spot to sit for ten minutes. If there’s water around, that’s even better.

I read in a book that meditating by the water calms our minds as they synchronize with the waves.

Sometimes, I grab a drink, which varies according to the time of the day.

In the morning, I like to drink a cappuccino. The evenings are made for fresh beers.

I always express my gratitude for the privilege I have: I can find the time to slow down, walk, and contemplate. I do not take it for granted.

Reading

When it’s raining outside, I feel comfort in reading a good book.

I always have a book with me. No surprises; I’m a writer, after all.

I love to dive into a different world for a couple of hours. It’s refreshing.

When I’m in the mood, I put on a good old movie and watch it.

I love old movies, especially those of Hitchcock. There’s a quality I can’t find elsewhere. He was really a master of his craft.

Treating myself

Sometimes, I feel present.

Those moments, I enjoy being in my body.

I treat myself to a delicious meal and good white wine.

I wear a dress that looks good on me and go out.

I clean my house and buy a nice detail, such as a scented candle.

These are the actions I love to do when I want to calm my mind and go back to my center.

What about you? What do you do to regenerate?

I believe that we don’t have to push ourselves to our limits and work hard.

Sometimes, it’s much better to forget about exercise, discipline, meditation, personal development, and so on.

Sometimes, all we need to recharge our batteries is some quality time with ourselves.
